Financial clarity isn’t a luxury. It’s a right every business owner deserves.
Meet Kate VanHorn
I started Patchwork Financial because I kept seeing the same thing, over and over: smart, hardworking business owners who were incredible at what they did and completely overwhelmed the moment money entered the conversation. Not because they weren't capable, because nobody had ever sat down and explained it to them in a way that actually made sense.
I've spent my career in small business financial management, with a genuine passion for helping entrepreneurs navigate their taxes, their books, and the financial decisions that keep a business alive. I hold an MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, and I bring real entrepreneurial experience to the table. I founded my own business at 24 and successfully guided it through to a full exit by 33. I've also volunteered with the United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Clinic, serving as Interim Site Coordinator during the 2024 tax season, because I believe good financial guidance shouldn't only be available to people who can already afford it.
I'm not a CPA, and I'm not your accountant. I'm a financial coach, which means I sit on your side of the table. My job is to help you understand what your numbers are telling you, know when it's time to bring in a specialist, and build a relationship with your money that doesn't involve dread.
What Sets Patchwork Financial Apart
We Coach, We Don't Just Calculate
Most financial services hand you a number and send you on your way. I help you actually understand what that number means so you're making informed decisions long after our session ends, not just waiting for the next invoice.
The Whole Picture, Not Just the Spreadsheets
Money isn't just math, it's stress, fear, and avoidance too. I work with both sides: the practical (taxes, books, cash flow) and the emotional (the dread, the shame, the avoidance) because ignoring one always undermines the other.
I Know When to Say “Call a Specialist”
I'm not a CPA, and I won't pretend to be one. My job is knowing exactly where coaching ends and where you genuinely need a licensed professional so you're never getting advice outside my expertise, and never paying specialist rates for something coaching could've solved.
